On February 9, Norman Pattiz, Executive Chairman of PodcastOne, and Tom Webster, Vice President of Strategy of Edison Research announced the results of a major study concerning five major national consumer brands. This study was conducted over the entire last half of 2016. In particular, it looked at the impact of the factors surrounding podcast advertising. There were pre-study and post-study tests in the advertising sectors of brand recall, intent to purchase and recall of specific messaging.
In all of these areas their was a significant increase in results. That is, there was a greater brand recall, intent to purchase, and recall of specific messaging. Of the five national brands used, there was a mix of very well known brands and brands that were relatively unknown. The pre-test phase involved all of these brands running their advertisements of these brands prior to the official test. After these advertisements online surveys of the audience were given out.
Although there was an increase from pre-test of post-test results, both sets of test indicated that all audiences are indeed receptive to brand messages and are willing to consider the purchase of these brands. This answered a question both companies had that instigated the tests: Whether or not podcast advertising was more effective than traditional kinds of advertising.
Edison Research also expressed gratitude to PodcastOne for choosing to partner with the research company in these tests. Podcast research is what Edison Research does best. In fact, it is dedicated to that very thing. They are a podcast research company that often partners in its tests with the largest radio companies in the country.
